Financial therapy California

Are money problems taking a toll on your wellbeing and relationships?

Perhaps you find yourself trapped in a cycle of impulse purchases followed by buyer’s remorse or maybe you find your relationship(s) dominated by arguments about money. You may still carry the legacy of financial abuse that makes it difficult to trust yourself or others with money matters. Maybe you are feeling like no matter how much you work, you never have enough, or are struggling to make decisions about even the simplest purchases. Perhaps you’re feeling hopeless that you can ever escape your feelings of financial insecurity.

Whatever it is that you’re experiencing, you’re beginning to notice it spilling over into other parts of your life, leaving you:

  • Unable to feel good about any of your financial decisions

  • Afraid to talk with loved ones about your financial life

  • Overwhelmed by anxiety, guilt, and shame surrounding your spending and saving

  • Embarrassed that you’ve tried all kinds of budgeting and spending tools, but nothing seems to help

Financial therapy can offer hope

While the road ahead may seem daunting, reclaiming peace and stability in your financial life is within reach. With the support of financial therapy, you can cultivate a sense of abundance free from the grip of anxiety, guilt, and shame. You can foster healthier relationships—with yourself, your loved ones, and your finances. Financial therapy equips you with the tools and insights needed to navigate your financial journey with confidence and clarity.

How financial therapy works

Financial therapy can help you find more confidence in managing your financial life Here’s how we’ll do it:

Take stock of the past

01

Take a look at the education and messaging you received (or didn’t receive) about finances and money - from your family, community, and our culture - that are still interfering with your life. We will dig deep to find your deepest and most ingrained beliefs about money.

Change unhealthy patterns

02

We’ll take note of the ways your internal beliefs about money have limited your options and made you feel stuck on a dead end road. Together, we will develop a new more flexible mindset, allowing you to think creatively and find a new path forward.

Cultivate confidence about the future

03

Build the skills and tools you need to feel confident that your decisions are aligned with your values and dreams, allowing you to live a less stressful and more abundant life.

I’ll help through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to therapy for money and finances comes from a place of confidence: confidence that you have the ability to let go of the fear and guilt and create the relationship with money that allows you to thrive.

FINANCIAL THERAPY THAT’S TAILORED TO YOUR UNIQUE NEEDS.

Things we can focus on in financial therapy:

  • Understanding the ways that your early money memories are affecting you in the present

  • Healing from the financial fallout of a divorce or breakup so that you can move on in a healthy way

  • Getting to the root cause of your inability to stick to budgets and financial plans

  • Learning new ways to view yourself and your finances that are empowering and attainable

  • Stopping they cycle of shame and regret that has kept you from moving forward

  • Identifying your financial values and create values-inspired financial goals

I use a variety of evidence-based methods and proven approaches to help you find abundance:

  • CBT helps us uncover the ways our thoughts influence our feelings and behaviors. Let’s take a look at some of the limiting beliefs you have about money that may be holding you back.

  • Learning mindfulness can help all of us to become more aware of and accepting of our feelings. Mindfulness can help us better identify the thoughts we have about ourselves, relationships, and the world as well as increase our ability to navigate difficult emotions.

  • Brainspotting is a form of somatic therapy that is used in treating symptoms of trauma. Brainspotting helps you to process and heal from trauma by reducing or relieving the symptoms of emotional distress that often emerge after traumatic experiences. Brainspotting uses bilateral stimulation (engaging both sides of the brain) to allow you to process the memory where it is stored in your brain in a manner that is not debilitating.

  • Narrative therapy helps you consider the stories you have been told by others and by yourself about money. Let’s take a look at the way that capitalism tricks us into equating our financial worth with our personal worth so we can heal the shame you feel about your financial situation.

What you need to know about Financial Therapy

  • We meet weekly for 50 minute sessions via video.  During our first few sessions, we'll get to know each other, make sure we're a good fit, and decide on some goals for working together. After that, I check in regularly to make sure we're working on issues that are important to you in ways that feel productive and safe. Questions and feedback are always welcome. Every once in a while you might get to see my lab mix, Roscoe, but that’s only if he feels camera ready.

  • I will NOT be providing  you with any financial, Investment, tax, or legal advice. As a therapist, it is my role to help you explore your deepest feelings and beliefs about money that may be interfering with your life. Together, we will work on creating a healthier relationship with money.

  • While there are no guarantees, we take great care and intention in exploring how your fears about money are affecting your life from the internal to the external.  Not only do we peel back layers of how fear and anxiety specifically manifest for you, we also work collaboratively to create tools that help you slow down and bring continued awareness to your experience and learn how to navigate your emotional states.

  • I love therapy!  But I’m not going to tell you that you NEED financial therapy.  I will say most people who choose to go to therapy are happy with their decision, especially those who take the time to find the right therapist. If it turns out I am not the right fit for you, I can help you find someone who is.

  • I’m so glad you asked!  First, click the “Schedule a free consultation” button 👇to book our initial call.  During our call together, we’ll have a short conversation about what’s bringing you to therapy now, answer any additional questions you might have, and overall get a chance to see if we’re a good fit.
