Trauma Therapy

 Are you…?

  • Someone whose thinking, re-thinking, and overthinking can get in the way of taking action?

  • A super-successful high achiever who gets steamrolled by anxiety more than you’d like to admit?

  • Thrown off your game by the slightest sign of conflict when it comes to family and friends?

  • Looking to remove the mental blocks that are keeping you from performing your best?

  • Tired of working so hard to keep moving forward despite a trauma history you just can’t shake?

Are you feeling stuck? Stuck in your patterns. Stuck with habits you don’t remember signing up for. Stuck in thought spirals that can keep you awake at night. Maybe you’ve felt stuck for so long, you’ve just accepted it as The Way Life Is.

What if you could change that?

How Brainspotting therapy works

At this point, you may be wondering, “What the heck is Brainspotting, anyway?” Perhaps you have heard of EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Brainspotting’s older sibling and know that it works to treat trauma.

Brainspotting is built on the belief that where you look, affects how you feel. That the position of the eye can access the parts of the brain where traumatic memories are stored and that the body already knows how to heal itself, it just needs a little help getting unstuck.

We’re not always aware of how our body stores the memories of the things we experience. And we can’t stop it – it happens automatically without our knowledge or input! So sometimes, even if we think we’ve come to terms with a past experience, our bodies may still be holding on to the memories.

Those stored memories can then start to sneak their way into other experiences, interactions, and decisions in our lives. Have you ever had a really strong emotional reaction that seemed out-of-proportion to what was happening? That’s your trauma memory showing up and misfiring an alarm even though you are not in danger.

Brainspotting allows you to find the eye position to access those memories, process them, and release them. And it doesn’t require rehashing traumatic events over and over. You can tell me as much or as little as you want about what you have experienced.

TRAUMA THERAPY THAT’S TAILORED TO YOUR NEEDS

Things we can work through with therapy for trauma:

  • Anxiety, sadness, anger – any big emotions you find yourself feeling often

  • Shame or low self-esteem - an unshakeable feeling that if people knew who you really are, they wouldn’t accept you

  • Medical trauma, diagnosis, or chronic illness

  • Habits that you struggle to control

  • Money trauma - not making what you are worth, excessive spending, fear of spending, financial abuse

  • Traumatic events or other painful memories

  • Relationship patterns you want to change – toxic relationships, attracting the wrong partner, feeling unseen or misunderstood

  • The pain of experiencing chronic discrimination and microaggressions

Wow that sounds great! But is Brainspotting really legit?

I know, I know, it sounds a little wacky. But, there is growing evidence that Brainspotting works to resolve trauma. It’s been used with survivors of traumatic events like 9/11 and the Sandy Hook school shooting as well as to help competitive athletes master skills for the first time after failing on every previous attempt. For Years.
