How Brainspotting therapy works
At this point, you may be wondering, “What the heck is Brainspotting, anyway?” Perhaps you have heard of EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Brainspotting’s older sibling and know that it works to treat trauma.
Brainspotting is a unique body-based therapy built on the belief that the body already knows how to heal itself, it just needs a little help getting unstuck. The process is gentle yet deeply effective, using specific eye positioning and focused mindfulness to access the areas of the brain where trauma is stored. This process often leads to profound shifts in how individuals feel and perceive their past experiences, while unlocking greater emotional freedom and creativity.
We’re not always aware of how our body stores the memories of the things we experience. And we can’t stop it – it happens automatically without our knowledge or input! So sometimes, even if we think we’ve come to terms with a past experience, our bodies may still be holding on to the memories.
Those stored memories can then start to sneak their way into other experiences, interactions, and decisions in our lives. Have you ever had a really strong emotional reaction that seemed out-of-proportion to what was happening? That’s your trauma memory showing up and misfiring an alarm even though you are not in danger.
Brainspotting allows you to find the eye position to access those memories, process them, and release them. And it doesn’t require rehashing traumatic events over and over. You can tell me as much or as little as you want about what you have experienced.
Brainspotting can build resilience, reduce symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, and depression, and empower you to live a more fulfilling life.

What to Expect During a Brainspotting Session
A typical Brainspotting session lasts between 50 to 90 minutes. It is a collaborative and client-centered process. I will help find your “brainspot” through specific eye positions that correlate with your emotional or physical discomfort. Once the brainspot is located, you’ll focus on it as you allow your brain and body to process and release the stored emotions.
Sessions are conducted in a safe, supportive environment, where you are encouraged to fully explore and process whatever comes up. My role is to support you throughout the session, ensuring that you feel comfortable and empowered as you move through the healing process.
The experience is highly individualized. Some clients may experience intense emotional releases, while others may feel a gradual unfolding of insights and healing. I will be with you every step of the way providing the safety you need to explore whatever arises during the session.
