A proven body-based approach to finding relief from the pain of the past

Are you struggling with the long-term effects of trauma?

You're not alone — and there is hope.

Trauma, whether it’s the result of a sudden event or a series of distressing experiences, can profoundly affect your emotional, physical, and mental well-being.

How Trauma Affects the Body and Mind

When we experience trauma, the body reacts by entering "fight, flight, or freeze" mode. While this response is critical for survival in the moment, ongoing stress and anxiety can become overwhelming if not properly processed. As a result, the trauma can become trapped in the body, leading to chronic physical symptoms, emotional dysregulation, or mental health issues such as:

  • Overwhelming anxiety or perfectionism

  • Chronic people-pleasing

  • Depression

  • PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)

  • Difficulty with relationships

  • Intrusive memories or flashbacks

  • Substance use or unhealthy coping mechanisms

The longer trauma remains unprocessed, the more it can affect your daily life. That’s why it’s so important to seek therapy, where you can learn to understand the trauma, reframe negative thoughts, and address deep-rooted emotional pain in a healthy way.

Trauma therapy is designed to help you process and heal from these past wounds in a safe, supportive, and compassionate space.

What Is Trauma Therapy?

Trauma therapy is a form of psychological counseling that focuses on addressing the lasting effects of traumatic events. The goal is to help individuals regain control of their lives, find healing, and develop healthier coping strategies. While trauma can take many forms — including childhood abuse, accidents, medical trauma, or emotional and verbal abuse — the impact can be far-reaching and long-lasting. Trauma therapy is not just about talking through painful memories; it’s about healing the mind and body, restoring your emotional balance, and building resilience.

Trauma therapy might include:

  • Talk therapy (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic, Attachment, or other modalities)

  • Body-based therapies such as Brainspotting to release stored trauma from the body

  • Mindfulness and regulation techniques to help manage intense emotions

  • Building coping skills for dealing with stress, anxiety, and triggers

  • Creating a safe space to process past experiences in a healthy and controlled way

  • Intensive Therapy

Who Can Benefit from Therapy for Trauma?

Trauma therapy isn’t just for those who have experienced major traumatic events like abuse, assault, accidents, or natural disasters. It can benefit anyone who has experienced:

  • Chronic anxiety, depression, or PTSD

  • Relational difficulties

  • Low self-esteem or lack of confidence

  • Difficulty with trust and intimacy

  • Childhood abuse or neglect

  • Grief

  • Money trauma

  • Bullying, discrimination, or harassment

If you feel like your past experiences are preventing you from living the life you deserve, trauma therapy could be the transformative journey you need.

What Can You Expect in Trauma Therapy?

Each individual’s journey through trauma is unique, and therapy will be tailored to your needs. However, there are several core elements you can expect from trauma therapy:

  1. A Safe, Non-Judgmental Space: Trauma therapy begins with the creation of a safe, supportive environment where you can explore your feelings without fear of judgment. Building trust with your therapist is essential for healing.

  2. Exploring the Past: A significant part of trauma therapy involves addressing past events and how they have shaped your life. This can involve discussing painful memories, but you’ll do so at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

  3. Developing Coping Skills: Trauma therapy helps you develop healthier ways of coping with anxiety, anger, or emotional distress. This can include mindfulness, relaxation techniques, and cognitive strategies to reframe negative thoughts.

  4. Working with Your Body: Traumatic experiences can cause the body to hold onto tension, stress, and negative energy. Trauma therapy often includes techniques like somatic experiencing and Brainspotting, which can help release this stored trauma and help your body heal.

  5. Regaining Control: As you progress, you will regain control over your emotions and thoughts, making it easier to manage the triggers that once controlled your life. Therapy will guide you through a path of self-discovery, self-compassion, and empowerment.

What you need to know about Therapy for Trauma

  • We meet weekly for 50 minute sessions via video.  During our first few sessions, we'll get to know each other, make sure we're a good fit, and decide on some goals for working together. After that, I check in regularly to make sure we're working on issues that are important to you in ways that feel productive and safe. Questions and feedback are always welcome. Every once in a while you might get to see my lab mix, Roscoe, but that’s only if he feels camera ready.

  • While there are no guarantees, we take great care and intention in exploring how your fears about money are affecting your life from the internal to the external.  Not only do we peel back layers of how fear and anxiety specifically manifest for you, we also work collaboratively to create tools that help you slow down and bring continued awareness to your experience and learn how to navigate your emotional states.

  • I love therapy!  But I’m not going to tell you that you NEED financial therapy.  I will say most people who choose to go to therapy are happy with their decision, especially those who take the time to find the right therapist. If it turns out I am not the right fit for you, I can help you find someone who is.

  • I’m so glad you asked!  First, click the “Schedule a free consultation” button 👇to book our initial call.  During our call together, we’ll have a short conversation about what’s bringing you to therapy now, answer any additional questions you might have, and overall get a chance to see if we’re a good fit.
